Yippee! The weather has finally turned and the seemingly never ending "Spinter" (not quite winter, not quite spring) has passed leaving us with sunny skies and dry weather. I can't even begin to tell you how thankful I am that the deluge seems to have ended. Never before have I experienced a winter like this one, and considering I spent many years living in cold, wet rainy, Northern Ireland, that is saying something. The farm is drying out, the animals are enjoying being out and about grazing and sun bathing and I, of course, managed to overdo it and land myself in bed because I tried to work on all the things that had been put off due to month after month of rain. *sigh* Nope, I am not super woman. Living, and tending a farm, with a chronic illness is challenging at the best of times and while it certainly has been frustrating watching the lovely weather out the window I am thankful the critters are enjoying it and soon I will be back out there enjoying it with them.
We have some exciting things coming up over the next month.... a fantastic new addition to our polled buck line up will be arriving at the beginning of June, our Linear Appraisal is scheduled for June 18th and Diji Farm SGW Greta Garbo VVVE 88 is due to kid around the 9th of July. Once she has freshened we will be putting the herd back on milk test. To keep my work load light, she will be the only doe we planing on milking through the winter and I hope to have her earn her milk star. So, no pressure Greta, it is all on you! We added Greta to the herd earlier this spring, after visiting my friend Brenda many times over at R Serenity Farm and threatening to sneak Greta in the car every time I left, Brenda finally kindly sold her to us. Thank you Brenda! Greta is a wonderful complement to our foundation doe Blythmoor BL Leilani +VVE 87 and is every bit as sweet as well. Definitely, my kind of goat.
Breeding plans for next year are shaping up and will be updated after Linear Appraisal!
