Not full in this picture, I quickly pulled her out of the pasture, snapped a photo and put her back in the pasture with her kid.

Height: Medium, will measure her soon now that she is done growing.
Personality: Friendly, mellow and sweet. Super personality!

I really love this doe, as soon as she hit the ground sopping wet as a kid, I took one look at her and said "Yep, you are staying!" Moana is long bodied, very dairy with a nice brisket and front end. She has a beautiful udder that is an absolute JOY to hand milk! Seriously, my favorite ever doe to milk and that is saying something considering how much I loved milking her grandam Leilani before retiring her. Add to that Moana’s wonderful hardiness, super easy kidding and great mothering skills... she is darn near my perfect goat. Her second freshening udder is quite capacious and she fed her quads easily. She has wonderful udder texture, teat placement with nice large teats, strong medial and milks down to nothing beautifully.

Moana earned her milk star in 2020 while being milk once a day and being fed a non performance diet. We didn’t feed alfalfa hay or Chaffhaye in 2020. She did great on just local grass hay free choice, with alfalfa pellets and oats while on the milk stand.

As we add a Pygora doe to our tiny herd this coming Spring and switch to breeding Nigoras, Moana will be available for sale in 2021 to a home that participates in ADGA’s performance programs as we would like to see her get appraised as a mature adult. She appraised +VV+ 84 as a one year old first freshener and has matured beautifully. Please contact me if you are interested in adding her to your herd.

2020 DHIA Milk Record

Please Note: ***We do not feed for performance.*** We select for hardiness and like our does to be able to hold a steady eight month lactation in good body condition, without having to be feed a super high calorie diet to sustain it or boost milk numbers. Our does get free choice grass hay, and on the milk stand get alfalfa pellets and 1/2-1 cup of oats. A screenshot of our spreadsheet where we track current lactation data and targets needed to earn a milk star will be updated below, each month, after we get our results back from the lab.

*With all the craziness going on with the pandemic in 2020, I let her kids stay on her longer in the spring and got a late start testing and dried her off earlier than usual so we didn’t get enough tests in to go for her AR star but she still easily earned a standard star on a diet of free choice local hay with alfalfa pellets and oats given on the milk stand once a day.
